cũng như cha. Cha mẹ thì có công sinh thành, mà thầy thì có công dạy dỗ.. Ta
phải biết ơn thầy cũng như ơn cha mẹ.

The teacher is like the father. Your parents have the merit of giving birth to you, whereas the teacher has the merit in teaching you. We should show our gratitude to our teacher as we do to parents.

phong tục ngày xưa, cứ mồng ba tết là học trò phải đến chúc tết thầy. Không
những khi còn đang học, mà ngày cả khi đã thôi học rồi, có khi đã làm nên danh
phận, cũng vẫn giữ lệ ấy. Học trò trọng thầy như cha vậy. Khi thầy mất thì học
trò phải mai tang, phải trông nom phần mộ và đến ngày giỗ thì phải cúng.

to ancient customs, on the third day of Lunar New Year, disciples (students)
must come to congratulate their teacher on this occasion. Not only present
students but also former ones, even those with high position in society, keep
that custom. Students respect their care of the undertaking and his tomb and
celebrate his death anniversary.
